2021.10.18 19:09 bespokey Schema Validation with Static Type Checking

I'm trying to implement data schema validation through static type checking as explained in the following video between 5:23-8:46: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfaBeT0pRe0&t=323s
The idea is that data schema is validated at runtime and the validations are represented as static types that can constrain the operations that can be performed on a given variable after it was validated.
For example, let's take a machine learning dataset with tables, and a table named "emails" which has many fields, amongst these are: "personid", and "email". A query result can be checked whether the returned data matches a set of validators, and then the returned variable will have these verifications expressed as its static type.
For example:

data EmailsTableColumns = PersonId | EMail class Col a instance Col PersonId instance Col EMail class Dataset a (...)
The tricky part is that validation should compose and add constraints, as if it keeps adding type parameters to the type. Here are two functions I'd like to write but can't figure out how:
Validation that results in type constraints: validateDataset :: Dataset a => ValidatorList a -> b
I want b to have a static type that represents that the returned value "has" PersonId and EMail. This will be used to constrain other functions that expect these to be present in the dataset.
Transformations based on static type constraints: transformPersonWithEmail :: Dataset a, <"has" PersonId and EMail> => a -> b
I want b to result in additional constraints at the type level. For example, it should add a computed field and reflect that at the type level so from that point onwards its static type will have an additional verified field.
I tried working through this with multi-parameter type classes and type families but didn't manage to express the expanding type constraints. I know there is no direct parallel to Scala traits nor dependent types in Haskell at the moment.
Is there a way to represent this through types in Haskell, maybe through singletons that represent the type constraints? Does this demand Template Haskell?

2021.10.18 19:09 _badger7 netboot.xyz or similar with secure boot

hi there,
i was wondering for a long time:
What would be our options to setup a pxe / netboot server with multiple bootable images if our company's guideline need secure boot enforced. As I see it we won't get much fun out of netboot.xyz or something similar as nobody got their bottloader signed by microsoft?
Are there any workarounds, hacks, clever tricks I am missing or is it just an "either or"?
I presume a lot of companies have to have similar requirements. Are those just a) signing their own bootloader by MS or b) remotely managing some kind of UEFI CA-trust on their endpoints?
Any help and insight is greatly appreciated. have a nice monday :)

2021.10.18 19:09 Lumpy-Object- Booking fee for cancelled event is non-refundable. Is that legal?

I bought tickets to an event. A summer BBQ with music. At the last minute, the event was cancelled. It was "rearranged" as an evening event in some nightclubs somewhere. Tickets had been sold through a 3rd party. I requested a refund as, not only was the newly arranged event now at a time/date where I would be unable to attend, it was also an entirely different product from the one I originally paid for. I was originally refused a refund but after stating my case I received a full refund from the event organisers. However, the 3rd party ticket-selling company has refused to pay back the booking fee I paid to them. Apparently it is "non-refundable". It's only a very small sum to me, but this whole fiasco seems very scammy. I feel that, the event organisers should be held liable and any losses the 3rd part happen to experience should be passed on to the even organisers, not the customers.
Otherwise, I feel this situation is a goldmine: 1. Set up 2 companies. 1 is a ticket-selling website. The other is an "event organiser". 2. Organise an "event". Tickets are sold by the "event organiser" through the ticket-selling website. 3. Cancel "event". Any refunds requested are automatically refused. Repay ticket costs to anyone who kicks up a fuss. We can still keep their booking fee. 4. Profit from scam.
What are the legalities for an organisation operating in this manner? Can they actually keep the booking fee for an even that never happened? Can I report them somewhere?
In England.

2021.10.18 19:09 Great_Manufacturer77 IT Specialist - IT Auditor

I have a job interview with another agency for an IT Auditor, and in the email the director mentioned to expect an email in about 4 to 5 weeks (they are interviewing candidates next month) for interview email and testing.
I am confused about the testing. If anyone is an IT Auditor (IT Specialist, Cyber), can you tell me about the testing? This position is not for DoD or a federal law enforcement agency. I'd rather not disclose.
I'm very interested in the position but since I'm horrible at test, I'm worried about the testing part of the email the director mentioned.

2021.10.18 19:09 darknessofchrist If all feelings are justified, how can I use this fact to deal with negative emotions better and not turn it into bad behavior?

What I hear a lot is that all feelings and emotions are justified but acting on your negative emotions is not justified because it usually hurts you or someone else.
And I’m also aware of the process our mind goes through when we make decisions. There are thoughts, which turn into emotions, which turn into behavior, which turns into an action which can facilitate more thoughts, etc.
The problem I run into is that I’ve learned to go easier on myself for feeling a negative emotion or feeling hurt by something, but where do I go from there? What usually happens is that I get a bad thought, it gives me a bad emotion, and I become aware of a very strong urge to act on it. I fight really hard not to act because I know it’ll hurt me or someone else but it slips out anyway because I don’t know what else to do with the energy. I’ve tried ignoring it, I’ve tried distraction, and I don’t know how else to sit with it.
How do I stop acting on my negative emotions? It feels almost impossible to not act when I start feeling negative, almost like my survival is at stake if I don’t say something or do something.

2021.10.18 19:09 Tactical_Powered Create SymLink in Virtual Box shared folder in Linux guest and Windows host

Hello! I installed VirtualBox and setup a Linux Ubuntu virtual machine.
I shared a GitHub repository folder from my Windows host to the Linux guest. In that folder, from Linux terminal I'm trying to run a shell script that tries to create a SymLink, and it seems that it lacks permissions. I get this error:

npm ERR! code EPERM npm ERR! syscall symlink npm ERR! path ../@babel/parsebin/babel-parser.js npm ERR! dest /external/node_modules/.bin/parser npm ERR! errno -1 npm ERR! Error: EPERM: operation not permitted, symlink '../@babel/parsebin/babel-parser.js' -> '/external/node_modules/.bin/parser' npm ERR! [Error: EPERM: operation not permitted, symlink '../@babel/parsebin/babel-parser.js' -> '/external/node_modules/.bin/parser'] { npm ERR! errno: -1, npm ERR! code: 'EPERM', npm ERR! syscall: 'symlink', npm ERR! path: '../@babel/parsebin/babel-parser.js', npm ERR! dest: '/external/node_modules/.bin/parser' npm ERR! } npm ERR! npm ERR! The operation was rejected by your operating system. npm ERR! It is likely you do not have the permissions to access this file as the current user
I tried cloning the same repository directly in my Linux VM via the terminal, and then I ran the scripts and it works. So it's definitely an issue with permissions for the windows folder.
How can this be fixed? Thanks!
