2021.12.04 17:22 ScrumHardorGoHome Starting a new job Monday. HELP!
As the title states, I'm starting a new job Monday. I've been out of work since February this year due to mental health reasons. I'm scared of starting a new job, the new routine, will I fit into it? Will I enjoy the job? What if it doesn't work out?
Any advice for my first day?

2021.12.04 17:22 Jxntb733 I’m sorry but getting into mining isn’t worth it, here’s some math.
You got three things to fight while mining: the cost of electricity to power the mining machines, availability and price of machines, and mining difficulty. Difficulty is hashes per second in/on/of the Bitcoin validation transaction. Difficulty changes as more miners enter as the network is only designed to produce a certain number of bitcoins every 10 minutes so the more miners the more distributed the rewards. More miners enter the market, difficulty increases, the number of bitcoins produced remains the same.
Part of mining difficulty is fighting against Giants in the space who have been creating mining rigs for years. They already owned their systems, so their equipment costs are/were zero. They have been doing it since the beginning when the number of bitcoins a miner received was 50, in 2012, halved to 25, in 2016, halved to 12.5, may 2020, halved to the current reward rate it 6.25. Till 2140.
Are you willing to pay for the necessary initial capital for the hardware and volatility of bitcoin as well as keep up with the level of difficulty? 10% of bitcoin miners control 90% of mining capacity. 0.1% of all miners own 50% of network mining capacity. Rewards are distributed disproportionately. Can you compete against established insitiutiona with enormous warehouses and growing megawatt capacities at their disposal? They are dealing in Terra hashes. A terahash is 1000000000000 hashes, like 5 TH/s - performs 5 trillion hashing operations per second.
Buying a graphics cards? Prices are outrageous! Nvidia RTX 3080: $225.90. Nvidia RTX 3070: $138.60. Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti: $136.80. Nvidia RTX 2080 Super: $89.40. Nvidia RTX 2070 Super: $94.50. Nvidia RTX 2060 Super: $95.10. Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti: $107.40. Nvidia GTX 1080: $80.70. Nvidia GTX 1070: $66.30.
Unless your in the new AMD Ryzen Threadrippers, daily profit for most gaming CPUs is less than $0.50 and isn’t worth the hassle.
It would be more profitable for me to sell my old laptops for Bitcoin then to mine on them. It will be more profitable for me to put a few thousand into bitcoin opposed to buying a gaming computer to mine off of. I’m sorry to say the ship of mining at home casually has largely sailed.

2021.12.04 17:22 triforc3-mast3r Finally beat FFVIII remastered! Thoughts and opinions after beating the game (spoilers)
Hoo boy... where do I begin? This game is rough. It's really hard, for a casual player. Are the mechanics interesting? Yeah, I guess so, and I will admit to not 100% understanding how it all works.
I played the game extremely suboptimally for the first half. I got all the way up to Cerberus with only one GF on each party member (which I'm very proud of, considering how hard that made the game for me). I didn't get Siren. Eventually I got really fed up with the game and turned on the cheats included in the remaster. As I understand it, the cheats essentially make it as if you were playing the most optimal way, so I didn't feel as bad about doing it as I would if this were any other game.
After I turned on the cheats, the game suddenly became fun again. But there are so many things that bug me about this game, it makes me wonder what Square were thinking: were they trying to be experimental for the sake of being experimental? Did they even consider difficulty or how casual fans would receive the game? Nearly everything about this game goes against every established trope, I guess is the right word, of an RPG: level scaling, no buying new equipment, no MP. You need to get new summons in order to get stronger, but the summons themselves are actually fairly useless past the 1/3rd mark of the game. This game just irks me on so many levels.
FFVIII was definitely not for me, though I did enjoy roughly the first 1/3rd to 1/2 of the game. The story is... very, very strange. I won't even try to explain it, because I don't even think the game understands it. And Ultimecia's plan makes no sense to me. She's gonna "compress time", which, as the game explains it, would create a realm in which only she could exist? Why would she want that? You can't rule over nothing. And if her goal was just to destroy the universe, then like... good for her? Now what is she gonna do? Remake the universe? Nothing like that was ever stated as part of her goal.
I try to find something to like in every game I play, but so much of this game went over my head that I found very little to enjoy. Eyes On Me was probably the best part of this game for me, and using Angelo Cannon and having Angelo suplex enemies was pretty fun too. But without those cheats, I might've actually gone crazy trying to beat this. I definitely do not recommend this game to casual FF fans, unless you're ok with using the cheats. If you're willing to do your homework before and probably during the game, then go for it. More power to you if this is your favorite game in the series. I say good riddance to this game. I probably would go back to 12 over this

2021.12.04 17:22 snowden2080 Should I stay or should I go?
I'm at a bit of a crossroads and would love some input.
I've been at my current job for a little over a 3 years. It's boring, but I knew that going into it. I took the job because I knew it would be super secure and at the time my family needed that security. I'm very passionate about my field so working at my current job is tough in that regard. There's also zero opportunity for advancement at my current job. In fact it keeps getting dangled in front of me then taken away once I fulfill the requirements to get the promotion.
For most of my time there my boss has NOT liked me. We butt heads a lot and no matter what I do it doesn't seem to affect my boss's opinion of me. I have completely revamped my entire department since arriving. I redid our entire server's organization so other teams can find assets (which is a key part of the business). I implemented processes and standards that have improved quality and consistency and increased output by 400% since starting there. I've taken my department to a whole new level (I realize this all sounds egotistical AF, but this job was a step down for my experience level, so all of the improvements came pretty easy since the department was in such rough shape before I got there). My boss is extremely demeaning, loves to ignore/downplay my achievements here, and constantly infantilizes my experience.
Fast forward to a few months ago with the birth of my child, my boss completely changed. COMPLETELY. My boss is now very nice, super flexible with my work schedule and even lets me work remotely two days a week, which is great cause that means I can spend extra time with my baby.
I have an offer from another company for more money, a more senior position, more interesting and challenging work (which is a good thing), and a seemingly great boss. It's also a company that's known within my industry (current company is not even on the map) so it would help with future job prospects. So what's the problem? It's in the office 5 days a week. So no more two days home a week with my baby.
Before baby came it would have been a no-brainer, but now that I have a kid in the mix it complicates things. Being with my baby those two extra days has been AMAZING...but, my current boss also has a history of completely changing on the drop of a hat. There was another period of time when my boss and I had a good relationship, but it flipped overnight with no explanation. So I'm afraid if I stay, that might happen again.
Soooo... what should I do?
TL;DR - Current job sucks monkey balls but I have two days a week remote so I can spend extra time with my baby. New opportunity has everything I could want but it's five days a week in the office so no more extra time with my baby.
