2022.01.20 01:22 Dracarys1618 Corrupted GM Nightfall is unreasonably hard

I understand that endgame content is meant to be difficult, and to require careful loadouts and movements but the Corrupted GM is ridiculous. Not only is the Elevator insanely difficult, although I’d argue it’s at least fair, the Boss fight is just insane. To be lifted into the air and thrown off the map with no way around it is such a frustrating mechanic it beggars belief, although I think the worst thing is the time limit.
Me and my fireteams were running through as fast as we could at we got to finally stage of boss fight at 42 minutes. We then had three minutes to try to finish her off or we lose all of our revives. So we rushed. Me an another teammate got booped, I survived, he didn’t. My other teammate who was relying on me putting a well down died due to me no longer being there to place the well, and then when I finally got it down I took so much damage inside the well (whilst wearing stag and with protective light) that I died before I could resurrect my teamates.
I imagine that someone writes a post like this every time it comes into rotation but this GM is just too unforgiving, and frankly I think beating it relies more on blind luck than skill.
I’m determined to beat it. But once I do, never again, and I pray for all future guardians that this thing gets sunset

2022.01.20 01:22 postmortemslave PROOF that Slipknot actually IS nu-metal!

I have no clue about you guys, but I am personally sick and tired of people thinking that Slipknot is not a nu-metal band. I understand that nu-metal gets a bad rap, but just because you dislike the majority of a genre/era/style/movement, does not mean that your favourite band from it is, all of a sudden, not actually part of it. I love Slipknot and their music, but I do not love people acting like they aren't something that they are. I know that there are many people who listen to certain nu-metal acts and try to deny the fact that they are nu-metal (Deftones fans do this, SOAD fans do this, Evanescence fans do this, etc.), but I'm especially annoyed about Slipknot's fans saying this. It's bad enough that assholes like Finn McKenty are saying it, but even Corey Taylor himself is saying it too. It's much more annoying to hear people say this about Slipknot than it is to hear them say it about Deftones or Evanescence, because if you told me Deftones and Evanescence aren't nu-metal bands, well, you at least would have a fairly decent reason to believe so. That's another debate, though. Slipknot, however, is one of the most nu-metal-sounding bands I have ever heard. So, that is what this post is all about.
But before we can prove that Slipknot is nu-metal, first we must define nu-metal.
Nu-metal is seen as a subgenre of metal, where the musicians who played it would combine elements of metal with elements of other genres like rap, industrial, funk, and grunge (among others), and often (but not always) also displaying a bit of a horror influence in their sound. Nu-metal bands usually don't do guitar solos or anything of the sort, most nu-metal songs feature heavy syncopation and are focused on guitar riffs more than anything else. Many nu metal guitarists are known to use seven-string guitars, and/or down-tunings/drop-tunings to try and sound heavier. They sometimes like to be experimental and try to make weird noises with their guitars, or just try to find new ways to play entirely (some guitarists that do this are Wes Borland, Mike Mushok, Munky and Head, etc.), though others may prefer to just focus on groovy catchy riffs that use power chords/single notes on the low E string (or low B string when using 7 string guitars) a lot without much experimentation (like Dan Donegan, Meegs, Brad Delson, etc.). Some nu-metal bands have DJs that will use samples, turntable scratchings, and synth lines, to add an electronic/hip-hop feel to the sound (some nu-metal bands that do this are Limp Bizkit with DJ Lethal, Linkin Park with Joe Hahn, Incubus with Chris Kilmore, etc.). Many nu-metal vocalists sing (Chester Bennington), rap (Fred Durst), scream (Chad Gray), and growl (Dez Fafara). Lyrically, often times nu-metal vocalists would sing songs about emotional pain, social anxieties, trauma, and mental issues (some examples are when Mike Shinoda raps about failure in In The End, Aaron Peltz screams about how messed up society is in many/most songs by DownTheSun, Trevor McNevan raps about domestic abuse in Impossible, etc.), so often times they would be venting frustrations in their songs, but of course, they weren't always doing that, and sometimes were writing about things that are totally different and have nothing to do with mental pain or social issues (like when Shifty Shellshock raps a love song called Butterfly, Rob Kersey sings about drinking beer in Beer, Sonny Sandoval sings about his religious beliefs regarding the afterlife in Set Your Eyes To Zion, etc.). It wasn't super rare for nu-metal bands and musicians to wear costumes and exaggerative makeup/masks/outfits (Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit, all of Mudvayne, all of Mushroomhead, etc.) and style their hair in really exaggerative ways as well (All members of Coal Chamber, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Wayne Static of Static-X, etc.). Nu-metal is what started the "New Wave of American Heavy Metal", as the kids are calling it nowadays.
A very important thing to mention is the era that makes nu-metal, well, nu-metal. Nu-metal began (and became popular) in the mid-to-late 90s and started going out of style in the mid-to-late 2000s. It was kind of like a new movement, in a way. Grunge had just killed metal, and nu-metal was bringing metal back in a grungey way (and effectively killing grunge). It's very era-specific, which can sometimes make it feel more like a time period than a genre. Much like grunge, it's easy to categorize bands that sound totally different from eachother as the same thing. For example, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden all sound completely different from one another, yet are considered the same kind of band. It's because they were all part of the movement, came out within the timeframe, and had enough of the key elements of the new sound to be considered "grunge". This works with nu-metal too. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne, and Disturbed all sound completely different from one another, yet are considered the same kind of band because they were all part of the same movement, came out within the timeframe, and had enough of the key elements of the new sound to be considered "nu-metal". This is probably part of the reason why it's called "nu-metal", cause at the time, it was the new direction that metal was taking.
So how does any of this apply to Slipknot?
We'll start with the easiest point to make here. Korn is considered the first nu-metal band and pioneers of nu-metal. Their debut album is seen as the birth of nu-metal. While they were not the first band to inspire nu-metal (RATM, AIC, and Pantera already existed at the time, but they aren't nu-metal), they were the first to play nu-metal and popularize it. Korn formed around 1991-1992 and recorded/released their first demo tape, Neidermayer's Mind, on October 17th, 1993. They then released their debut album on October 11th, 1994, almost an entire year after the demo tape. Then, in 1994, Limp Bizkit formed, recorded a few demos for a few years, and released their first album, Three Dollar Bill, Y'all, on July 1st, 1997, Staind formed in 1993, played their first show in 1995, and released their first album, Tormented, on November 29th, 1996, Deftones formed in 1988 and released their first album, Adrenaline, on October 3rd, 1995, and Coal Chamber formed in 1993, released a demo tape in 1994, and released their debut album on February 11th, 1997. These were some of the earliest and biggest nu-metal bands, and when they came out. It seems the main timeframe in which nu-metal was really starting to happen was 1993-1997.
So why does THAT matter?
In September of 1995, Slipknot was formed under the name The Pale Ones. They changed their name to Slipknot (naming it after one of their songs) not too long after that. They had a bunch of lineup changes, but they released their demo album, Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., on October 31st, 1996. It was Shawn on percussion, Joey on drums, Paul on bass, Anders on vox, Donnie on guitar, and Josh on guitar, or at least, it was was when they recorded. They spent time trying to mix and master it, so once it was finally released, the lineup was actually Shawn on percussion, Joey on drums, Paul on bass, Anders on vox, Craig on samples, Mick on guitar, and Josh on guitar. Then in January 1998, they started working on more stuff, and made a second demo with just 5 songs, their member lineup at this time was Shawn on percussion, Greg on percussion, Joey on drums, Paul on bass, Corey on vox, Craig on samples, Mick on guitar, and Josh on guitar. In June, they got a record deal with Roadrunner, and they recorded their first studio album in September. They kept working on it for a while and didn’t finish it until 1999. They released it on June 29th, 1999. It was a big hit. In 2000, the album was certified platinum, which is the first time any album released by Roadrunner went platinum. Slipknot formed during the dawn of nu-metal and released their debut album after 1997, when nu-metal was already popular. So, they definitely fit into the era. There are plenty of artists that came out in this timeframe, though. So that can’t be enough to say they are nu-metal. But I have more to say. Check this out: POINT TWO: THE SOUND The sound. What elements of Slipknot’s sound make them nu-metal? Slipknot’s musical style combines elements of rap, metal, industrial, and even funk in their early, pre-1998 days (Do Nothing/Bitchslap is a good example). They definitely had a big horror influence to their sound, and could easily have made a horror movie’s soundtrack in the 90s. For the majority of their early years, they never really did guitar solos, and when they started doing them (around the time they made AHIG), they were still not common in their songs. Their songs were heavily syncopated and were focused on guitar riffs a lot. They always down-tuned and drop-tuned their guitars to try and sound heavier. In the albums, Slipknot (1999), and Iowa (2001) (ESPECIALLY Slipknot), Mick and Jim liked to experiment with their guitars and make weird noises with them. They would write a lot of groovy catchy riffs with attitude that often used single notes on the low E string and/or power chords (some of my favourites are Liberate, Left Behind, Psychosocial, etc.). They had 2 DJs in the band, Craig who did keyboards and samples, and Sid who did record scratches (and samples too from time to time), which gave their music a more hip hop sound. That’s DJ Lethal split into two people! Two people to do the job that can be done by Joe Hahn. Okay, maybe this isn’t the most appropriate place to start rapping. My bad. Corey Taylor did many different things with his vocal style, he would scream (he did this in almost every song they’ve made), he would sing (Sulfur, Dead Memories, Vermilion Pt. 2, Snuff, Wait And Bleed, and many more), he would rap (Spit It Out, No Life, Only One, etc.), and he would growl (Disasterpiece, Gematria, Tattered And Torn, etc.). He would sing lyrics about emotional pain (Duality), social anxieties (Surfacing), and mental issues (Vermilion), he was often venting his frustrations in his songs. They also wears costumes, with masks, makeup underneath the masks, and exaggerative hairstyles. Of course, that’s not really related to their sound, but it is still about their appearance and how they perform, so close enough. Seems like all of those things are the things that help make nu-metal actually nu-metal. Slipknot checks all of the necessary boxes and then some! POINT THREE: THE SCENE You can’t deny that they were very active in the nu-metal scene. They played Ozzfest in 1999, which primarily had a bunch of nu-metal and industrial metal bands (Deftones, System Of A Down, Fear Factory, Static-X, Hed PE, etc.). They’ve toured with many nu-metal bands such as Kittie, One Minute Silence, Sevendust, Spineshank, Mudvayne, Hed PE, downset., Papa Roach, The Union Underground, American Head Charge, No One, Chimaira, Disturbed, etc. Shawn Crahan also got the nu-metal band DownTheSun signed to Roadrunner, of course, sadly, that band dissolved shortly after. Also, remember that Limp Bizkit feud that went down? Seems like they got a bit involved in the scene, for a band that’s apparently not in it…
DEFENSES “They don’t sound like other nu-metal bands, though…” This is a pretty dumb point to make. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Staind, Deftones, and Coal Chamber all sound nothing alike. They have a style in common, but are all so different that it’s hard to see them as one in the same, and it’d be pretty damn easy to love some of those, and hate some at the same time. Same “subgenre” ≠ sounding exactly the same. This goes for any kind of music. Sublime, No Doubt, Smash Mouth, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are all ska bands but sound very distinct and different from one another. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Suicidal Tendencies are all thrash bands but sound very distinct and different from one another. Three Days Grace, The Cranberries, U2, and the Foo Fighters are all alt rock bands but…well, you see where I’m going with this. To say they sound different than other nu-metal bands does not make them not nu-metal. It just means they have a unique sound that’s easy to recognize. “They have a bit of a death metal influence.” I don’t hear this that often, but I’ve heard it a few times before. Mudvayne also has a big death metal influence. So do DownTheSun, Cidal, and Orthodox. Nobody holds debates about whether or not those bands are nu-metal. Why not? Because they ARE nu-metal. “They’re too heavy to be nu-metal! Nu-metal is just rap-rock.” If you say that nu-metal is just rap-rock, then clearly you don’t know anything about what you’re talking about and you need to quiet down, child. “But Slipknot is actually good, and nu-metal sucks!” Okay, I actually never hear this one. But it’d be pretty annoying if I did hear it because I think indie pop sucks, yet I actually like Sub Urban...does that make him not indie pop? I know that nobody really says this for the most part, but I’m sure somebody thinks it subconsciously. A lot of metal gatekeepers like to disassociate anything they dislike with actually being metal, they would pretty much say that nu-metal isn’t metal, metalcore isn’t metal, deathcore isn’t metal, they may even say that alt metal as a whole isn’t metal. I’ve heard it many times before. Genres evolve and create subgenres. To say a subgenre is not a part of the genre it comes from is stupid. That’s like if I said that mumble rap isn’t hip hop, or that grindcore isn’t metal, or that math rock isn’t rock. I may hate that garbage, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a part of the genres it stems from…just means I don’t like it. And I know it’s possible that there may be an artist or band of those genres out there that I’d end up liking and just haven’t found yet. I don’t like country, but I get down with Johnny Cash every once in a good while. That doesn’t mean he’s not country. That just means I like an artist of a genre that I dislike for the most part. “But Corey said they aren’t, so how can they be?” Well guess what else Corey said? Remember that Corey also said that We Are Not Your Kind was going to be “Iowa levels of heavy”, yet it wasn’t. The fact that he would say that makes it seem like he’s not the most reliable source on what his own music even is sometimes. To compare WANYK to Iowa is like comparing See You On The Other Side to Life Is Peachy, or comparing The Black Album to Master Of Puppets. Just because they are the same band does not mean they will always sound the same, so if you wanna say WANYK sounds like Iowa, you’re probably the type of person who would also say that American Idiot sounds like Dookie. CONCLUSION Slipknot came out in the era of nu-metal, sounded like nu-metal, and were active in the nu-metal scene. They formed during the dawn of nu-metal and didn’t release their debut studio album until after then, when nu-metal was already popular. They had all things that make nu-metal sound the way it does, for example, heavy syncopation, catchy riffs, and versatile vocal styles, as well as some other known nu-metal traits such as having DJs, wearing costumes, and having a horror style. They were a bit involved in the scene, and toured with many bands of the scene, as well as having a major feud with one of the biggest bands in it. They are, in every sense of the term, nu-metal. Now you can stop with this bullshit about how they’re really just a part of the “New Wave of American Heavy Metal”. Shut up. Nu-metal as a whole is part of that.
Slipknot is nu-metal. Also, check out this post.

2022.01.20 01:22 ConConCraftsYT Chest proportions

I've been working out for a few months at home. Here are the chest excercises I do.
3x10 FLAT BENCH 60 lbs
4x8 INCLINE BENCH 50 lbs
Will these different set and rep numbers negatively affect the way my chest develops? Is there something better that I can do?

Also should I be doing the same weight for incline and flat, or keep the incline lighter?

2022.01.20 01:22 ledtim What's up with The Federal Vampire and Zombie Agency's main site being completely delisted on Google?

The Federal Vampire And Zombie Agency is a site that went viral like 15 years ago. It's a site about an agency that fights the vampire and zombie threat that seldom breaks character on its pages.
It just came to my mind the other day, and I tried to find it and it took me a while because all the pages on its domain (fvza.org) is completely unlisted on google.
Example: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Afvza.org
From what I skimmed, the creator still seems active and the site is still updating.
So why is the site completely blacklisted/banned/delisted on Google? Only possibilities I could think of is some people took it entirely too seriously and categorized it as a fake news conspiracy site, or the creator himself requested it to be delisted for some reason.
